About Us

Hendrik (Hank) Vermeulen, former vice president of Informatics at Independence Blue Cross (IBC) of Philadelphia and Aetna.

He has spent over 35 years developing expertise in health information strategy, data warehousing, healthcare IT, decision support systems, client reporting/analysis, analytics, performance management, Health Information Exchange, innovation, and consulting.
 
Hank joined IBC in January 2006 and built the company’s Informatics division, which is recognized as one of the top Blue’s Informatics groups in the country.  Prior to joining IBC, Hank spent 15 years of his career at Aetna. He was the Vice President of AetInfo Plan Sponsor Information Services, which provided analytical resources and customized analysis to Aetna's national and middle-market accounts. Hank spent 2 years at Ingenix as Director of Information Services before joining Aetna. Hank also spent 12 years with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan, where he served in roles of increasing responsibility in the health care information area. 

Hank earned a B.S. in Mathematics from Hastings College in Nebraska, and a M.S. in Mathematics from the University of North Dakota. He was the chairman of the BCBSA Blue Health Intelligence Steering Committee and served on the Pennsylvania Health Information Exchange Advisory Group. 

Hank and his wife Carolyn live in Doylestown, Pa. Their daughter, Jennifer, joined the Advanced Analytics division of Florida Blue after receiving her M.S. in Statistics from the University of Pennsylvania.
